LG debuts its affordable K series phones in India

LG has joined the Make in India bandwagon with the launch of its latest K-Series smartphones in the Indian market. The 4G LTE enabled smartphones- K7 and K10 will be manufactured at company's Noida plant and will retail at Rs 9,500 and Rs 13,500 respectively. The South Korean tech giant is aiming to produce one million handsets an year in the country.

Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister, Communications and IT, GOI inaugurated the LG's Make in India efforts and said that it is just the beginning and there is tremendous scope for electronic industry to boom in the country. He further mentioned that India as a country is open to new schemes and policies to make the country a better and informed nation.

LG K10 and K7 smartphones were launched ahead of the CES 2016 trade show and will succeed the company's L-Series smartphones. The smartphones are the first to offer LG's glossy pebble design with company's new 2.5D Arc glass display.

With the K-series smartphones, LG is eying the mid-range Android handset market, which is ruled by popular offerings from Chinese smartphone makers. Both the smartphones borrow design cues from the flagship LG G4, which follow the LG's pebble design language and offer decent specifications at an affordable price-point.

The K series smartphones bring 'Gesture Shot' and 'Gesture Interval Shot' features - where you can take a selfie by raising an open hand in front of the camera sensor and then clenching it into a fist take a selfie without pressing a button.

At this price-point, LG K10 and K7 will fight the likes of Xiaomi, Lenovo, Huawei and Motorola smartphones in the Indian market.

Looking at the specifications, we can say that LG will face a tough competition in selling the new handsets in the Indian market. A number of Chinese and other smartphone makers are offering better specifications at similar price-point.
