Xiaomi to launch the Redmi 3S in India on August 3

Image
There’s good news for Indian consumers who’ve been waiting for Xiaomi to launch its ultra-affordable smartphone, the Redmi 3S in India. The Chinese smartphone maker is expected to release the Redmi 3S, an upgraded variant of the Redmi 3 , which was a successor to the popular Redmi 2, at an official event to be held in New Delhi on August 3. The Redmi 3S, launched in China last month, came with a few upgrades over the Redmi 3, including a rear fingerprint sensor, Qualcomm’s new 64-bit class Snapdragon 430 octa-core SoC and Adreno 505 graphics engine, instead of the Snapdragon 616 octa-core processor and Adreno 405 GPU inside its predecessor. This aside, both the smartphones share the same specifications, including a full metal body with 5-inch HD screen, 2GB/3GB RAM, 16GB/32GB storage, 13MP/5MP rear/front cameras, and a 4,100mAh battery. But we can’t confirm yet if the Redmi 3S released in India will come with the same specifications as its Chinese variant, as Xiaomi had

Motorola has finally revealed the first new smartphones for its 2016 line-up by announcing the fourth generation of its popular budget handset, the Moto G. The company has brought two variants to the table this year, the G4 and the G4 Plus. The name would suggest the G4 Plus being a larger device however both the handsets have a similar looking design and form factor. The Moto G4 Plus is launched at a price starting at Rs 13,499 for the 16GB variant (2GB RAM) and Rs 14,999 for the 32GB variant (3GB RAM). Asus Zenfone 3 series of smartphones to launch at Computex 2016

The third generation of smartphones under Asus' Zenfone series has been rumoured since last year. The upcoming handsets even leaked in some images, but without any extra details. The Taiwanese company too, has kept mum regarding the release of upcoming Zenfone 3 family. Not anymore, as the company has finally started teasing its announced handsets a few weeks ahead of this year's Computex Taipei conference. Asus has released a 30-second video teasing three of its smartphones, which are most likely to be a part of its Zenfone 3 line-up. According to the video, the company will be revealing the smartphones on May 30. Are Smartphones Becoming Too Complicated?

Image
I was intrigued earlier this year by HP's Elite X3 , a phablet that can be used as a smartphone, tablet, and even a full PC. This 5.9-inch Windows 10 smartphone runs the new, high-powered Qualcomm 820 processor and 4GB of RAM and has 64GB of internal storage. On the surface, it's a great Windows Mobile phone, but what makes it interesting is a special docking system that turns it into a PC. Using a phablet to run full Windows applications would be difficult, but with this docking system, the X3 can be connected to a larger keyboard and monitor to serve as the CPU, OS, and application layer. The idea is not new; Motorola tried it unsuccessfully with the  Atrix . And I have seen at least four or five similar designs in labs that never came to market. But HP's attempt begs a more important question: are smartphones these days just too complicated? Smartphone makers are cramming more and more functionality into smartphones, but this actually makes them mor

The invite hints about a device called Z1 to be launched on that day. The name Z1 strongly hints at the ZUK Z1 smartphone that was launched in China last year. For those aren’t aware about ZUK, it is a sub-brand of Lenovo that was introduced in August last year. The sub-brand is Internet exclusive and targeted at the youth. The Z1 was the first flagship smartphone under this brand and was launched in China for 1,799 Yuan, Rs 18,000 approximately. GizmoChina reports that at the Zuk Z2 Pro smartphone launch in China, Lenovo CEO, Yang Yuanqing commented that Motorola (now owned by Lenovo) will be announcing a new smartphone on June 9. But that was about it and the CEO refused to give out any information as to what type or which product would be launched on the said date. With so many leaks revealing the Motorola Moto G4 and its elder sibling the G4 Plus, it makes sense to believe that we could be seeing the next generation of the Moto G getting announced on June 9. Oppo F1 Plus review: More than just a selfie smartphone

Image
In January 2016 Oppo had announced that it would be launching its series of F series smartphones that focussed on the camera. Soon we heard about the F1, and then we reviewed it. It garnered a bit of interest, but it brought nothing new to the smartphone space (including its own lineup), apart from the 8MP front-facing sensor. Clearly, it just was not enough. But Oppo still had a another smartphone up its sleeve and this one indeed seemed to be the revamp that many were looking forward to. Why? Well, this is because it was to be the smartphone, that would pack in at least some of the impressive innovations that the company showcased at the MWC 2016 held at Barcelona. Impressive components (fingerprint reader, Super Fast VOOC charging etc.) that are also expected to appear in smartphones made by other manufacturers in the industry. Oddly, none of those components made it to the Oppo F1 Plus, but as we reviewed the smartphone, we did discover plenty of improvements and

The HTC 10 is the most powerful smartphone in the world

Image
I reviewed the HTC 10 this morning and when I did, I noted that it is one of the most surprising phones the world has ever seen. Sure we knew all about the phone’s design and specs leading up to the announcement, but leaks never seem to be able to paint a complete picture. They gave us no indication that the HTC 10 would feature class-leading battery life that lasts up to two days on a single charge, they couldn’t foresee that the phone’s camera would be as impressive as it is, and there was no mention at all that the HTC 10 would offer a touch experience that is faster and smoother than anything else on the market. But most interestingly, perhaps, is the power HTC managed to get out of the HTC 10 despite specs that are in line with other top Android phones on paper. Leaks thoroughly detailed the phone’s specs ahead of its announcement, of course, but we had no idea they would come together quite like this. In the early days, Android vendors foc
